4th Chamber Concert
Oliver Taupp: Dumka Quintet »Belarus« / Mieczysław Weinberg: Sonata op. 69 for 2 Violins / Hans Gál: Piano Quartet in B Major op. 13
Alter Saal
Musical friendship: The Polish composer Mieczysław Weinberg has created an extensive oeuvre. His proximity to the music of his friend Dmitri Shostakovich can be heard in his compositions time and again. Created in 1959, the sonata for two violins sounds lyrical and romantic, impressing with the sonority Weinberg can get from these two string instruments.
In 1914, Hans Gál composed his Piano Quartet op. 13, proof that he is an accomplished composer. A passionate work reminiscent of Brahms and Dvořák, the opus brings sound associations of the Romantic era into the early 20th century. Dumka is a Slavic, historical folk song with a melancholic character.
The Dumka Quintet »Belarus« by Heidelberg’s composer Oliver Taupp will open the concert programme.
